Submit an updated version of the assignment that you submitted in Week 2. This time, please use 2-3 pages (single spaced) or 4-6 pages (double spaced) to answer modified versions of the same 3 questions in more depth – now incorporating relevant ideas and knowledge that you have learned on this course:
- Beyond Canada and the UK, which 3 other markets do you think Chick-fil-A should enter first, and why? Have these recommendations changed since Assignment 1? Why or why not? (NB. You are welcome to change your mind and recommend different countries if you wish!)
- Which aspects of the international marketing task will be affected by the main strengths of Chick-fil-A’s product/service offering in these 3 markets, and how? Refer to 2-3 concepts/models/ideas that we have covered on BUAD 475.
- Which aspects of the international marketing task will be affected by the main weaknesses of Chick-fil-A’s product/service offering in these 3 markets, and how? Refer to 2-3 concepts/models/ideas that we have covered on BUAD 475.
- Reflection question: What are the main ways in which your thinking about international marketing has evolved since you wrote Assignment 1, and why? How might the knowledge you acquired on this course serve you in your future life and career?
- Reflection question: What are the most valuable or memorable insights, lessons, cases or examples that you are taking away from this course?
Content Questions 1-3 are worth 50 points each, while Reflective Questions 4-5 are worth 25 points each (200 points in total).
Although it is fine to re-use what you submitted for Assignment 1 (think of it as a first draft), it is vital that your Assignment 2 clearly demonstrates additional learning, arguments and insights, as well as reflections on what you have learnt. Assignment 2 should include more detailed and informed discussion and reasoning compared to Assignment 1, and a thoughtful reflection on how your thinking has evolved since the start of this course.
To score highly on this assignment, you should aim to demonstrate logical reasoning, critical thinking and the ability to reflect on your learning in your arguments. Be clear about why you are sticking with or changing any of the markets you originally chose in Assignment 1, and again remember to keep these markets, as well as course concepts, in mind as you answer Q2 and Q3, rather than just discussing strengths and weaknesses and general. Using the knowledge you acquired in this course, update and expand your arguments about the company’s main strengths and weaknesses and speculate on their chance of succeeding in these markets. For Q4 and Q5, take a step back and consider the “big picture” of what you have learned on this course – not only applied to Chick-fil-A but more broadly. There are no “wrong answers” to these two questions as they are focused on your personal experience and plans – I am looking for authenticity, self-awareness and effort to reflect on your learning in depth.
Again, it is recommended that you find 2-3 NEW research sources to help you answer these questions, beyond the sources you used for Assignment 1. Whenever you use information or ideas from other sources, you should reference these clearly, which means:
- Numbering each source – [1], [2], [3] etc.
- Inserting the number in the correct place within your discussion where you have used that source – e.g. “Locations are closed on Sundays so that all employees can enjoy a day of rest, which was a core value of the company’s founder [3].”
- Providing the URL of the source at the end of the assignment, in a numbered reference list – e.g.: [3] https://www.chick-fil-a.com/about/who-we-areLinks to an external site.
