Students will write a 500-800 word ESSAY (Intro/body/conclusion paragraphs) on the following:
During WW1 and WW2 the United States took extraordinary steps to win both wars. This included restricting civil liberties. Using the documents found in Primary Source #4B and Primary Source #6B discuss the justifications for and against restricting civil liberties during WW1 and WW2

Students must provide citations for material presented that is not the original work of the student. Students, however, are discouraged from doing outside research as it may complicate your ability to complete the essay within the allotted length.
This essay is purposefully short given the broad question and material chosen for discussion. Among many things, the practice of history teaches students to distill complicated information with often multiple interpretations into concise narratives and/or statements. The length requirement of this essay, therefore, is partially intended to test a student’s abilities to critically analyze material and clearly explain it.
