Recommendations for improving career advising services to support students in residency placement at medical schools.
How can the career advising services be improved to support students in residency placement at medical schools?
Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this study is to provide recommendations on how to improve career advising services to support students in residency placement at medical schools.
Problem Statement:
The problem is that “students do not feel prepared for the residency they matched in after career advising services were offered in years 1 to 4” (Dr. XXXXX, personal communication, March 14, 2024).
Three research methods are as follows:
Approach 1: Semi-structured
interviews
The first approach will be
semi-structured interviews conducted with at least five faculty administrators
overseeing residency placement at medical schools.
Approach 2: Focus Groups
The second approach will be one focus
group using open-ended questions. The participants
will be a group of six medical students who utilized career advising services
during their application to the residency process.
Approach 3: Quantitative surveys
The third approach will be a
quantitative survey using the Google Forms platform. The participants will be a
minimum of 25 students selected from the fourth-year class and have not been
included in any other approach indicated above.
