Prompt: In what ways will AI replace human labor for nursing over the next 20 years?

Prompt: In what ways will AI replace human labor for your intended profession/calling over the next 20 years?

Outside Sources: Four or more, at least two of which must be academic/peer-reviewed sources from CCP’s databases (EBSCOhost, Credo Reference, etc.). All sources must be at least 1,500 words and published in the last five years.

Note: If you use AI or a LLM, all your sources should be real, the information accurate and relevant, and consistently and correctly cited in MLA or APA style; also two sources must be peer-reviewed from CCP’s Academic Databases.

Length: 2-4 pages

Description and Instructions

Using at least four current and authoritative sources, explain how AI will change the human contribution to the profession or calling you intend to pursue. What does AI do now that humans used to do in your intended profession? What skills are being automated by AI in your intended profession? You cannot cover all the ways, so pick 2-3 areas to focus on so you can go into depth on each area. Important: this paper should reflect your voice and perspective but not judge AI to be either good or bad.

Besides clearly answering the prompt, another purpose of this essay is to demonstrate that you are mastering the first five Student Learning Outcomes, with an emphasis on “Effective use of information [sources] and accomplishment of specific objectives as assigned.” (See syllabus.) In other words, this essay will show off your research skills as well as your ability to “use sources ethically” by citing sources of information and correctly quoting and paraphrasing to avoid plagiarism. In a research paper like this, peer-reviewed sources have the most credibility as information and evidence because they are written by experts or authorities. (Remember to select “peer-reviewed/Scholarly” in EBSCO.) Your paper will demonstrate “effective use of information” if your sources are drawn from Credo Reference, EBSCOhost, Opposing Viewpoints, Jstor, and other CCP databases as well as a few trusted online news sources like the New York Times. See the videos in Week Three Instructions for tips on finding sources in databases. If your research comes from less trusted sources like howstuffworks.com or other unreliable websites, then your essay will earn a low (possibly failing) grade.

Introduction: Your essay should begin with an introduction that leads into your Research Question (RQ) and working thesis. (By “working,” I mean temporary; the thesis will be revised for Essay 3.) The introduction should begin by introducing your topic to the reader and providing a preview of what’s to come (essential background). A good way to set up the RQ in a “natural” way is to quote two sources that disagree on the topic. Then you can write, “This debate leads to the question, [add your RQ here].” The last two sentences of the introduction should be 1. your RQ and 2. thesis (which answers your RQ).

Body Paragraphs: Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that clearly states the main idea and topic of the paragraph in your own words. As a whole, body paragraphs should be organized according to a clear structuring principle that arranges ideas clearly and logically, often from basic to complex ideas. A good structure for this paper might be: I. Introduction, II. clearly and thoroughly define key term, III. One way work used to be, IV. How AI has changed that way work used to be, V. another way work used to be, VI. the way AI changed another way work used to be.

Conclusion: Essays 1 and 2 will not have a conclusion since all the essays combined will be turned into the final research paper (Essay 4). The conclusion in Essay 3 will serve as the conclusion for the entire paper.
