should provide an interpretive framework for the project, and the answer to the question will
serve as a thesis statement for the introduction to your paper. As you work on your paper, it is
possible that you will need to reframe your question and thesis statement. That happens
frequently with research, and is a normal adjustment to the project you set out for yourself. If
this does happen with your research, be sure to let your professor know, so she can advise you
with these changes. Also, include a revised bibliography together with your paper question. 2) A paper on a topic of your choice on Colonial Latin American History is required for this class.
Papers must be 10-12 pp. in length and are due on the last day of class. Graduate students will
read the literature from the undergraduate course listed below and will read ten sources on the
topic they have chosen for their papers. The sources will be determined in consultation with their
professor. Bibliographies are due on May 15. See handout on possible topics for graduate-
student papers on HIST 591 / Colonial Latin America. Once you have submitted a bibliography,
your professor will work with you on the final decisions for your list of sources. Listed below
