Gender inequality
remains a pervasive issue in Sub-Saharan Africa, impacting various aspects of
life including economic opportunities, education, and political representation.
Media, as a powerful tool for shaping public opinion and social norms, plays a
significant role in either perpetuating or challenging these inequalities.
While urban media has been extensively studied, rural journalism—which serves a
large and often marginalized segment of the population—has received less
attention. This research seeks to address this gap by exploring the
representation of women in rural media, the challenges and opportunities for
women’s participation in rural journalism, and how rural media can be leveraged
to promote gender inclusivity.
