DQ1: I think that this is such a great way to explain the probability of an outcome. This example of flipping a coin is something that we use when informing our clients about gambling addictions. We typically will ask them the simple question about the fair coin. It is common that people with a gambling addiction will say that if you flip the coin 5 times and land on heads then the sixth time will definitely be heads or definitely be tails. They do not make the connection that there is a 50/50 chance of either one happening. When looking at gambling we connect it as being the same chance. When putting in all that money to chance and after some losses maybe winning some the question we have them ask themselves is “did I win more than I put in? Did I at least win my money back?” Probability can be connected to many things but this was an example that resonated with me the most.
There is a specific statistical concept that you are referring to in terms of one flip not impacting the following flip. What is it?
DQ2: What was the muddiest point from module 2? It needs to a concept that we covered in the past module such as the standard error. Make sure to be as specific as possible and illustrate with an example. You also need to show your work and/or explain it. DQ3: Describe the purpose of hypothesis testing. Explain the four steps of hypothesis testing while using an important current event in which you could study.
DQ4: To set the criteria for the decision (step 2 in hypothesis testing) we must identify the critical value and the rejection region. What information do you need to set the criteria? How do you determine when to use a one-tailed test? When do you use a two-tailed test?
