CJ 405 Module Two Practice Activity Foreseeable Liability and Mitigation Strategies Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
In this activity, you will be focusing on how to identify liabilities in a real-world scenario and how to mitigate the risks of those liabilities to prevent such an event from taking place in the future. These are important skills for a security practitioner that you will use in Project Two. Using the scenario below, answer the questions listed after it.
Scenario
A woman walks into a fast-food restaurant to order dinner. After placing her order, she uses the bathroom. She locks the door. As she is about to exit, someone breaks into the bathroom and assaults her. She sustains severe injuries, including potential head trauma. After the incident, it is determined that the bathroom lock was broken and had not been maintained properly and that the security cameras were broken as well. There have been other reported assaults in the area, and no security or police officers were present in the general vicinity during this time.
Prompt
Using the scenario above, write responses to the questions listed below. Specifically, the highlighted rubric criteria must be addressed:
- Was this event foreseeable? Describe the foreseeability of the event, and justify your response.
- Which area of liability could lead to a lawsuit in this scenario?
- What best practices could you employ to reduce these liabilities and prevent this scenario from happening in the future?
