A-Contemplative Practice
The
world’s cultures and spiritual traditions offer a wide range of contemplative
practices. Mindfulness practice and various forms of meditation have become
mainstream and even valued in work places.
1-Please describe what your relationship has
been to contemplative practice in your adult life.
B-Taking Radical Responsibility for the Quality of One’s Attention
and Focus
1-Returning
to Maull’s ideas on radical responsibility, what would it look like for you to
take radical responsibility for your ability to focus, to stay aware of your
own states of mind, and to have a keen focus when called for in your daily
life?
2-Specifically, what do you feel you would
need to change relative to any self-defeating habits you might currently
struggle with, and what habits would you ideally need to develop, to replace
these?
C-Please
read the two articles attached. (INTJ partner and the Commons)
Please note your 1-Observations, 2-Questions, and 3-Reflections
for each of the two articles directly above.
D-Shame and Attention’s
Negative Bias
1-What
are your observations about the impact of shame on the flow of attention both
generally (theoretically) and specifically as you apply this question to your
own experience.
2-In thinking about this theoretically, please
draw on the work of Rick Hanson, and share a link to an article, webpage,
video, etc. of his that you are especially drawing from.
