Identify a specific, contemporary ecological problem (for example, something like overfishing in the Arctic Sea, wildfires in California, unsustainable lithium mining in Chile, etc.). Ideally this would be the topic that you are focusing on, or considering, for your MESH Program Capstone Course Case Study Project which you will work on throughout your MESH courses. Your selection here could be a sub-topic or topic that is related to your project that you want to further develop. I added the paper that explains my MESH project.
For this assignment, you will write a short description of your case study and apply some thoughts about the classical environmental thinkers as follows:
- In a Word document, start with a one-paragraph summary of your issue.
- Apply the main components of one classical environmental thinker (Thoreau, Muir, Pinchot, Carson, Hardin or Rees) to your case making sure to discuss how their ideas could be used to understand and address your specific problem (you may use a thinker that you focused on for Discussion 1.2, but you don’t have to); Link for readings. Login info is ID: Eflorido and Password: Reeses1998!
- Do the same thing with a second classical environmental thinker.
- Which do find more compelling to understand/address the issue?
- What are some gaps in your thinkers’ contribution to the topic?
This assignment should be about 2-3 double-spaced pages (500-750 words) in length.
