Scholarly Discussion 3 – Cultural Competence and its Role in Combating Human Trafficking

The purpose of this discussion is to explore the significance of cultural competence in addressing human trafficking issues. Students will gain insights into the various cultural factors that influence human trafficking dynamics, identify challenges in providing culturally competent support to survivors, and discuss strategies to enhance cultural sensitivity in anti-human trafficking efforts.

1. Overview: What is cultural competence and how is it relevant to addressing human trafficking? Consider how you can use the Purnell Model in this introduction.

2. Explore Cultural Influences: How do cultural factors such as economic disparities, gender norms, migration patterns, and traditional practices impact human trafficking? Share examples of how cultural differences may affect victim vulnerability and trafficker tactics.

I also invite each of you to reflect on your own cultural biases and assumptions. How can you personally cultivate cultural competence and promote inclusivity in your professional and personal life?

Your posts must include citations and references (with initial post and peer responses) to support your discussion (written within the past 5 years- or explain why the dated source was helpful). An initial post with in-text and end of text references in APA format
