Exploring Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love through Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”

In Richard Sternberg’s paper “A Triangular Theory of Love” published in 1986, he identifies eight different types of love. Do a search to locate Sternberg’s categories. Do his categories of love fit any of the ones described in Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” (303)? If so, do the categories present in the story help us understand the point that Carver is trying to make about love? Write a research paper in which you explore this question.

Your primary source will be the work from your textbook. You must also include at least three secondary sources in addition to the story from your textbook. Be sure that you carefully read the topic you choose because it might specify certain types of sources.

In your paper, you should quote or paraphrase regularly from your primary source. You must quote at least twice from each of your secondary sources, (2 quotes x 3 sources = 6 quotes), and you must list all your sources on the works cited page. Your works cited page should have an entry for the story you are using from your textbook and your secondary sources. (Be sure to alphabetize your works cited page). Secondary sources may include print or online scholarly articles, reviews, published essays, or books, just to name a few.
