In 100 words or less each student will create a
substantive personal philosophy and plan for advancement of their professional nursing development and clinical practice that incorporate their knowledge of the current trends in the Nursing Profession.
After a careful review of Cherry & Jacob (2023) Table 3-1 pp 41 and reading the content of the
related subtopics, students will compare & contrast the similarities & differences, advantages & challenges of the following contemporary trends in nursing education and practice with that of the traditional approaches. As well as provide recommendations for overcoming challenges.
o Rapid expansion of knowledge via increasing use of technology in nursing
education and practice.
o Practice based competency, outcomes, and evidence-based practice.
o Competency-based learning in nursing and other healthcare professions (See
articles titled: (1) Rounds with Leadership: Joining the Conversation about
Competency-Based Education and (2) Competency-Based, Time-Variable
Education in the Health Professions: Crossroads (Highlighted areas).
o Increasing clinical workload with added professional and personal responsibility.
