Do the pros outweigh the cons of police officers being required to wear body cameras?

Assignment Requirements:

  1. The paper should present a thesis that is specific, manageable, provable, and contestable—in other words, the thesis should offer a clear position, stand, or opinion that will be proven with research.
  2. You need to research and cite from at least five sources. You must use at least 4 different types of sources.
    • At least one source must be from a ECC library database.
    • At least one source must be from a credible website outside the ECC database– a website that is appropriate for academic use.
    • At least one source must be scholarly. (These may be articles from ECC library databases or books that are “peer reviewed.”  We will go over these in a future module.)
    • At least one source must be a book. (This can be an e-book or a traditional book. You do not need to read the whole thing! Just reading and using one chapter or an introduction is plenty.)
  • NOTE: Even though you are not required to use the following types of sources, here are some other sources to consider for your paper:
      • Documentaries (must be non-fiction films)
      • Interviews
      • Podcasts
  • The paper should not over-rely on one main source for most of the information. Rather, it should use multiple sources and synthesize the information found in them
  1. This paper will be at least 5 full pages in length, but may be up to 7 pages, not including the Works Cited page, which is also required.  This means at least 5 full pages of text.  The Works Cited page does NOT count towards length requirement.
  2. You must use MLA format for the document, in-text citations, and Works Cited page.
  3. You need to integrate quotations and paraphrases using signal phrases and analysis or commentary.
  4. You must sustain your argument, use transitions effectively, and use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  5. Your paper must be logically organized and focused.

Audience:

Think of your audience as a well-read individual who may have heard about the controversy you are researching, but has a fuzzy understanding of it overall, and either does not yet hold an opinion or holds the opposite opinion from the one that you are advocating.

Purpose:

Your purpose is to persuade your audience to care about, consider, and maybe even act upon the position you are advocating. To achieve this primary purpose, you will also need to inform your reader about the controversy and why various groups hold different opinions on it.
