You will write a brief summary and
reflection/critique of the article (~4 pages, double-spaced.)
Suggested format for your paper:

Short summary of the article, including the researcher’s
objectives, research questions, data/participants, analytic methods,
significant findings, and contribution of the study/overall importance (~1
page)

Discussion of the analysis as it relates to
topics we have read about in ethnographic analysis this semester (~2.5-3
pages). Consider especially what you took from Heath’s Ways With Words
(keeping in mind that was an entire book!) in terms of how the researcher…

Defines the space and relevant context of their
field/site(s)
o
Defines important historical events, factors,
and trajectories of the community studied
o
Describes participants, and the subset chosen to
discuss in the current study (if applicable), including their roles and
relationships within the community
o
Discusses issues of power at play, and/or
theorizes how it serves to understand the community and relations between
participants studied
o
Provides evidence for their understandings –
data from field notes, recordings of interaction, interviews, etc?
o
Persuades the audience of their key findings
through a particular writing style

your reflection/critique of the article on these points.
