Once you have chosen a passage, choose a single real-world situation to which the passage could be readily applicable, whether a situation in church history or a situation in current church life. Choose a real-world situation that is actually relevant to your chosen New Testament letter passage without twisting or abusing the passage. It is also important that you choose a topic that is free from politics, so that the grader can easily tell that the essay is an open-minded, fair application of the passage rather than an application of your personal political viewpoints.
In order to illustrate your point, include at least one direct quote from your passage, and at least three citations to other outside resources – not including online Bible translations or course material. These outside resources could be history books (or reliable historical websites) that discusses the situation to which your passage is relevant, or the outside resources could be direct quotes from the writings or speeches of Christians from particular eras of history who wrestled/are wrestling with the real-world situation you are addressing.
