Discourse Analysis
1.Use your research to identity three to five themes related to the representation of gender and sexuality that are directly relevant to your selected text and help you answer your research questions.
2.View your text carefully and make notes on how these themes are mobilized in the text. This could involve any aspect of the plot, characterization, dialogue, or the way that a particular scene is shot. Refer back to the course materials for ideas.
3.Add, delete, or change themes as they emerge.
4. Once you complete your analysis, prepare your paper as per the requirements below.
Writing the Research Paper
Prepare a draft of your paper using the following template:
1.Introduction with thesis statement. The thesis captures the main argument that you will make in your paper. It should answer your research questions in your graded proposal.
2.Background and theoretical framework. In this section, you will provide a background of the issues around representation of gender and sexuality that are directly relevant to your topic and text. You will also introduce the key theoretical concepts based on a critical-cultural approach.
3.Discourse analysis. This is the largest section of your paper and will be further subdivided. Each subsection will address one of the themes that you identified during your analysis. 4.Conclusion.
5.List of references. You will be expected to have a minimum of eight scholarly sources, including from the course materials.
