HA425M4-4: Evaluate quality improvement programs implemented in health systems, including how quality is measured.
GEL-1.02: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English.
Assignment Introduction: Continuing on from the last assignment, you are a practice manager for a multispecialty provider group. You will prepare two emails, one to your providers and one to their clinical support staff, discussing a quality measure that you have scored low on for your value-based contract. (Hint: It can be a HEDIS measure for Medicare members or another NCQA quality measure for commercial health insurance patients.)
Assignment Directions:
Address the definition, how the data is collected in the electronic medical record (hint: discrete data fields), and why it is important for them to use the recommended documentation process. Lastly, discuss how this impacts the provider group overall (recall the previous assignment on reimbursement).
Assignment Details
- The email to the providers should be succinct and highlight only critical information, while the email to the clinical support staff should include more information and the “why.” The emails should motivate their respective audiences.
- Discuss one quality measure that is applicable to the multispecialty group and provide the definition and goal for the measure. You may also want to include a hypothetical current state.
- Highlight where the data is collected in the electronic medical record (should be a discrete field but may be collected by the provider or support staff depending on the measure).
- Discuss the importance of proper data documentation and the impact on the overall tracking and reporting of the measure, as well as how this can impact the organization financially based on your value-based contract.
