SECOND YEAR FINAL THESIS INSTRUCTIONS

A thesis or dissertation is a document submitted in support of
candidature for the Master’s diploma, presenting the author`s research
and competence on a given topic of aesthetic medicine. The thesis is the
final report on a comprehensive area of aesthetic medicine and is the
central component to completing the degree requirements. The thesis must
demonstrate a mastery of the existing body of knowledge while also
expanding the body of knowledge on the subject. To accomplish this, all
parts of the thesis must be organized and presented in a cohesive
structure that follows a logical progression.
The thesis should be prepared under the guidance of a supervisor, and it will be in the responsibility of the candidate.
Two types of theses are possible:
a. experimental thesis, summarizing the results of clinical research done by the candidate;
b. descriptive thesis, summarizing a bibliographic work done by the candidate.
After having chosen the thesis topic, the candidate should specify if his/her thesis is experimental or descriptive.

The Master’s secretary will be happy to provide further information may
be required in terms of bibliographic materials necessary for thesis
preparation.
Thesis preparation

The thesis should have a length of 20-30 pages and should be submitted
as a digital copy. For those requiring for recognition purposes to have
signed by the director and stamped their master’s thesis, are required
to bring with them the final copies of their thesis.
Thesis components
1. Title page
2. A detailed table of contents
3. A brief abstract
4. Acknowledgements if any
5. An introduction
6. A comprehensive review of the relevant literature

7. Research questions and methodology of the thesis: explain what the
objective is of the thesis, what the initial theory will be and what you
want to “demonstrate”
8. Body of the thesis: Presentation of the results obtained
9. Discussion: Analysis of the results, tentative to explain the meaning of the data gathered or
the observed phenomenon, try and respond to the original research question

Thesis general format and layout
Paper format: Use the standard A4 format and set the same margins (e.g. 2.5 cm, top/bottom,
right/left).

Size & line spacing: The text should be in 12 point character and
1.5 spaced lines. Footnotes should be in 10 point character and single
spaced lines.

Font: Choose a commonly used font that provides a full character set,
for example Times (especially when using languages other than English).

Tables & pictures: Insert tables, graphs and images directly where
they belong in the text. Please avoid the use of colour as it may not be
reproduced. Tables must be on one page, not divided across different
pages.

Pagination: Pages must be numbered. The final copy will be double-sided
so you must ensure that blank pages are inserted where necessary in
order that new chapters, sections, bibliography etc. fall on the
right-hand side, on an odd-numbered page.

Cover page: The cover and inner title pages must be set using one of
the six-page Word file template (including three blank pages).
