Topic 1:
Identify and discuss some of the major social classes that existed in medieval feudal societies. Explain and illustrate with examples what is meant by relations of personal dependency and parcelized sovereignty. Distinguish between the institutions of fiefdom, serfdom, vassalage, and free peasantry. What are some of the more obvious differences between traditional (pre-modern) and modern polities (or political systems). Were any of the characteristics of the medieval present in the historical development of Canada?
Topic 2:
Analyze the rise of the Occupy movement and discuss some of the reasons that may have contributed to its decline in recent years. Review the historical origins of the Occupy Wall Street movement in Zuccotti Park, and its later migration to other countries, including Canada. Discuss how its leadership structure (or lack of structure) and tactics may have weakened its political impact over the last few years. Also, describe some of its spin-offs into other organizations (such as Black Lives Matter), and evaluate its contributions to several different movements and their campaigns.
