POST 1: (50 WORDS OR MORE)

The multicultural competence that I resonate with is ‘attitudes and beliefs’ (Association of Multicultural Counseling and Diversity, 2023). It speaks to me because it signifies the cruciality of cultural awareness. A culturally literate counselor demonstrates respect in their professional engagement to facilitate a solid relationship that delivers high-quality services to the client for desirable health outcomes. Besides, the counselor is conscious of the bottlenecks that impede the acquisition of equitable health services by vulnerable groups. For example, they may be aware of institutional racism and how it underserves people of color, deteriorating their life quality. Such consciousness is vital because it helps create innovative solutions, such as transformative policy changes that improve the health landscape indiscriminately.

I will advance the selected competence through self-education and cultural immersion in preparedness for my professional counseling work. For example, I will use clients’ cultural backgrounds as the basis for the research I will undertake to enhance my cultural literacy. The knowledge I will gain will help improve my client-counselor relationship, fostering greater understanding between my target audience and I. Besides, it will help me suggest the ideal intervention strategies for each client as informed by their cultural backgrounds. I will find communities that provide cultural immersion opportunities, such as engaging in cultural events, learning native languages, and witnessing healing ceremonies. I will use my holiday time to gain as much knowledge and experience in these communities as possible to heighten my cultural literacy. Such cultural immersion will help me form stronger and more effective clientele relationships, improving the service experience and my professional capacity. My depth of knowledge will make my clients more appreciative of my skills and strengthen my credibility, making my professional work outstanding.

POST 2: (50 WORDS OR MORE)

After reviewing the Association of Multicultural Counseling and Diversity (AMCS) I feel like counselor’s self-awareness speaks the most to me.  Being self-aware is a good thing to be in any situation.  Even more so in a setting where you are somewhat in a position of authority.  It is very important not to use this for any advantageous gain.  As counselors we should always have the client’s best interest in mind.  If a counselor is not self-aware, they will not be able to realize the negative impact they could potentially have on the client.  Self-awareness also means understanding your own deficiencies and working to fix those for the benefit of the client.  This could mean fixing ones on prejudices as to not negatively affect the client.

I think we can become more self-aware as we learn and grow from our experiences. I like to Take time out of your day to self-reflect as a way to better understand myself.  Attending workshops is a great was to continue to develop this competence.

POST 3: (50 WORDS OR MORE)

I am here to talk a little bit about Carl Jung viewpoint of human nature. John, as well as Freud, based his theory of personality in the thought that the psyche has a conscious and an unconscious level. In contrast to Freud’s theory, John thought that the most important part of the unconscious do not come from the personal experiences of the individual, but instead he comes from the remote past human experiences
that eventually he will call the collective unconscious.
This concept has been the most controversial aspect of junk theory. But maybe you will be asking yourself, what is the collective unconscious? The collective unconscious refers to the psychic protein shell symbols and archetype that are transferred generationally. It does not refer to the inherited ideas, but to the natural tendency of humans to react in certain way whenever their experiences trigger a response that is part of their biological heritage. Zhang also focused on the role of spirituality, creativity and personal growth. The collection of these aspects are the ones that influence the behavior and personality of the of our individual being. These the main reason that John believe that human nature is complex and multifaceted, as for me, I am hidden, and I am very spiritual. My spiritual belief and my practice has made a big impact in developing my viewpoint of human nature. I view human nature as inherited, connected to the natural world and to the divine. I believe in the interconnection of all living things and the importance of honoring and respecting the Earth. Similar to John, I see human nature as complex and multifaceted as he does. I also share the belief on the existence of the collective unconscious. For me, the Collective Unconscious is not limited just to natural tendency of humans to react in certain ways, but also the shares reservoir of archetypal symbols, myth and spiritual experiences that connects individuals to the their cultural and ancestral roots. In this context, it serve as a bridge between personal experiences, and the large number of humanities through adultery.

POST 4: (50 WORDS OR MORE)

this week, we got to touch on Carl Jung and learn about his theories of personality. Really looking forward to looking on all the other discussion posts and getting to see a little more face to face interaction with everyone this week, but to jump right back into it. So for Carl Jung, this week, we’re looking into his view on human nature in particular. Carl Jones, young human nature was much more positive than what we learned about last week. Last week we got Freud. Was very pessimistic barrier set by, you know, childhood and who you will be. Carly. John, on the other hand, had the perspective that we had periods in our life of childhood, adolescence and then middle age, where we experienced these sort of like spikes in growth and development into who we wanted to be. Carly John’s personal experiences played a huge part in this. Him being a very unhappy child and having a neurotic episode later on in his life created the need for him to develop his desire to overcome it through dream analysis and exploring mysticism and spirituality. Carlos, on himself, contributed a lot of like really, based on the past, and we will be coming into this kind of theories and personality. What I mean by that is collective unconscious, right? So, for collective unconscious, he believed that there is this reservoir of information that was stored over time, and each of the new generations of humankind was pulling on these reservoirs of knowledge whenever the moment came. And these moments were basically archetypes of our periods of life, and that included the Animus, the animal psyche itself, and the shadow persona, persona, and basically the persona being the mask that we wear while we’re in public, interacting clothes, the Anima and the Animus, both different halves masculine feminine, and how the overcome it was basically gender masculine, and, you know, becoming more feminine or adapting more traits of femininity in order to progress and same. But in verse, Roman, becoming more masculine or adapting more masculine traits to develop the self being the shadow, first being all the darker aspects of our personality, and then the self who we actually are developing, which leads into individuation, us becoming who we want to be, and removing all those aspects, you know, the persona who we think the public wants us to be, removing the concepts of gender norms, and you know those roles they need to play in our lives, the shadow, you know, diving into it, but getting all the parts that are important of the darkness within ourselves in order to develop a fully formed concept of our self. So for me, personally, after college on this we used numerous times in a lot of different jobs that I’ve had, and word association, dream analysis, from his perspective, all of these different things that he contributed. After reading about that and thinking about my own personal spirituality, which I was raised Christian, but I am very agnostic now. I don’t necessarily believe in anything necessarily concrete, or,
you know, any religion in particular, basically,
it kind of did give me the general perspective of sort of like relating to it a little bit, I guess, in a sense, because I do have this personal belief that although there’s nothing necessarily concrete out there, or maybe we don’t have the best you know idea of what is out there for us, if there is something out there, that there are definitely pieces or forces of the universe at work beyond our recognition, and they help us and they hurt us, and that’s not really something that we can necessarily control, but to be aware of it is something that is beneficial to us. So it’s not that because I did sort of like, think about the idea of being atheist when I was growing up. I didn’t want to necessarily fully commit to that idea, just because I felt like I would be, you know, like just pushing away the idea of anything else existing out there, bam. I hope everyone had good time reading this week and really enjoyed the concepts that John placed. And if you haven’t taken my eyes breaks test you should totally take it. It’s fun.
