EXPANDING THE DEFINITION OF BEING HUMAN WITH SIGNIFICANT OBJECTS AND ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS

This week, you’ll have the opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of “significant objects” in two parts:

Part 1- you will choose an image from the Lascaux Caves (provided in the Learning Resources) and answer a few questions about it
Part 2 – you will select a significant object (anything created by humans) and then write about the background of this item and why it is meaningful to you.
For Part 2, please select an object that holds meaning for you—think of a song, poem, movie, piece of jewelry, photograph, or even a gadget that resonates with you. Your chosen object can be well-known or something uniquely personal. You’ll first share the significance of your selected piece—why it holds special meaning to you and then you will dig deeper into your analysis for your Week 5 assignment. *Note – you will need to include supporting evidence/research in the assignment, therefore I recommend getting started on the Week 5 worksheet as soon as you make your initial post.

As a species, we have always communicated through art and meaningful objects, telling stories that resonate across generations. I’m looking forward to exploring our virtual gallery and discovering the pieces that inspire and move you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
