Write a 2000 word minimum draft of an essay on a contemporary cultural issue. You will be writing about this issue to explore, entertain, inform, but not to rant, preach, or disparage.
You are taking us through your own learning process on this topic, and the most important element is your first person narrative voice that acts as a tour guide through your topic. I cannot emphasize enough that this is NOT a research essay or a report even if you are drawing upon sources.
Your job is to use your own, lively voice to take us through YOUR learning experience about this subject. That is where and how you use your sources. Evaluate them, tell us what they seem to be saying, point out where they may contradict one another, and most important, explain how they contribute to your emerging understanding of the topic–but make sure we hear your voice throughout as well as your own reactions, responses, and interactions with the source material.
You will need to use at least three quality sources to inform your writing, and you will cite them using MLA or APA citation practices. These sources, however, are NOT the main content in this essay, Your own voice, and how you use it to inform, entertain, and engage your readers is at the heart of this essay.
