Objective:
To demonstrate an understanding of what makes some programs a higher quality facility. Demonstrate knowledge of what quality centers should offer, should have, should look like and should sound like. Be able to explain the difference between a standard licensed program and an accredited facility.
Instructions:
1. Create an 8-10 slide Power Point Presentation on what families and parents should know before choosing a school or center for their children.
2. Using out textbook as your guide, plus two other resources, offer ideas and tips for what parents should see and hear when they enter the facility.
3. What is the center’s primary philosophy regarding child development and what approach to learning do they practice?
4. Provide information about asking the right kind of questions, such as hours of operation, meals served, cost for services, expectations for attendance, materials provided, outside schedule and daily routine.
5. Address staff/teacher qualifications. What type of education or years of experience is required of the teaching staff?
6. What type of license do they have? Are they just simply a licensed facility or have they taken on the accreditation process?
7. Briefly describe an accreditation and how it differs from a standard licensed facility.
8. Be as thorough as possible, using the text and two other resources as a basis for your recommendations. Use your own experiences with day cares or child development centers as a parent or employee.
9. Make sure you have pictures, graphics and other elements to make your presentation visually appealing.
10. Include a reference slide, which can count in the total of 8-10.
