All students are required to complete a project paper for the course. To complete the project paper, the student should use the Internet as a research tool to find online articles and material. All materials used, whether online articles or other publications, must be from a reliable source such as the online databases available through the Horry-Georgetown Technical Library. Materials from Wiki-collaborative sites (e.g., Wikipedia) are not considered reliable sources of information for the project paper.

Description:  The course project paper requires the student to conduct online research to find information about one of the following topics. The resources used should provide an opportunity to develop contrasting views about the topic selected. Contrasting views may include positive and negative aspects of each side of the issue.  
– Compare and contrast the different eras of police reform in the United States from the mid-1800s to the 21st Century.
The written portion of the project paper should include the following sections. 
Introduction 
Description of the topic or subject
Compare or contrast the topics or subjects 
Conclusion  
The project paper must conform to the following to avoid a reduction in points. 
-Must be a minimum of three (3) double-spaced pages or approximately 1,100 words. The minimum number of pages required will not include the title page or reference page(s). 
-Must have margins of 1″ on all sides, each page. 
-Must be in MS Word with a font of Times New Roman at size 12. PDF documents will not be accepted for credit. 
-Must be written in the third person or a formal objective style of writing. When writing in the third person, personal pronouns (e.g., you, we, they, or I) are not used. The project paper should be written as an observer reporting findings. 
-Must be according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition (2020). 
-Must have a title page, reference page, page numbers, and headings according to APA (2020). 
-Must be supported by a minimum of two (2) references other than the course material.
