ii) written by someone who is independent—not paid to promote any products, policies, politicians or viewpoints?

iii) fact-checked by a different, independent human?

TASK 2: In three paragraphs, describe three different articles, each from a different source of traditional journalism.

If you need ideas of sources, you could try the following:

            BBC News (online)

            NPR News (online)

            The Washington Post

            The Wall Street Journal

            The New York Times

            The Boston Globe

            The LA Times

            The Lexington Herald-Leader

Each paragraph should include

a) The title of the article, date of publication, and the source (e.g., the Lexington Herald-Leader)

b) The name of the person who most likely edited the article (You’ll need to look up the editor(s) of that particular source.)

c) Was the full text available online? Or did you need to go through the ‘Journals’ portal of UK Libraries to access it?

d) Two things you learned by reading that article.

How to find a newspaper article

  1. In Google (not Google Scholar), type [The name of the newspaper/source] [topic key words]
  2. If you are not able to read the full-text article, then enter the newspaper name into ‘Journals’ in the UK Libraries website (like we did in RR3), and look the article up by publication date.
