An example of where evidence-based practice has improved health outcomes would be the implemented interventions that my place of employment has initiated for Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI). This infection is one of the most common infections in the healthcare setting that can be prevented with proper care of the insertion site and the use of sterile insertion. The evidence showed that in most situations’ catheters are being used longer than needed and also used inappropriately. These reasons can lead to UTI and the cost of treating the infection is more costly than transitioning a catheter patient to a patient who can be toileted. The first line of defense to prevent CAUTI is by not inserting a catheter, to begin with, and if a catheter is appropriate shortening the timeframe the patient has a catheter. Ensure that the insertion technique is aspect, proper hand washing, proper maintenance of the catheter, and prompt removal.
