Émile Durkheim & Karl Marx Sociological Theories in Cultural Erosion and Loss of Language Among Native Americans

Durkheim, Marx, and Weber (pictured from left to right) were deeply concerned with societal transformations from traditional to modern societies. For this midterm, you are required to write an essay that imagines a dialogue between two (2) of these theorists on a social problem of your choice.

How would they frame the social problem?

Where would they agree/disagree on?

How would they propose a solution to the problem?

Here are the specific guidelines and questions to address in your essay:

  • Length: Your essay must be 6 pages, not including the title page and references, double-spaced, formatted in APA style, with page numbers. Do not forget to put your name and the details of the course on the title page.

  • Sources: Use at least two chapters from Dillon (citing page numbers) and three video materials (citing time stamp) provided in the course. Do not include additional external sources. <– I can do this since I have the book. I’ve provided the videos in the attached documents.

  • Concepts: You must use at least three concepts per theorist.

  • AI Use: You may utilize AI tools to proofread your essay for spelling mistakes and sentence structure. However, ensure that the essay is your original work; fake and shallow essays that are AI-generated are not permissible and you will receive 0 points.
