Opening Argument
The ethical issues or dilemma:
- Autonomy
– An unconscious patient came to the hospital with Do Not Resuscitate in
the form of a tattoo. Should the doctors uphold those wishes or continue
with resuscitation efforts?
I am
assigned the Pro side – Accept the patient’s DNR tattoo and expect it to
be followed
My opposing side is to not accept the DNR tattoo
Present your opening arguments, which are based on
ethical principles, philosophical viewpoints, value reasoning, and your
research findings. Your opening remarks should be no less than 250 words.
Citations and references are required for at least one resource other than the
actual article you have been assigned. You may use your textbook as a
resource.
You will be assigned to one group to represent one of two
opposing opinions in regards to an ethical issue.
You will, in an ethical argument, attempt to convince the
other side to change their opinion.
The arguments will be based on ethical principles,
philosophical viewpoints, and values reasoning.

Read the document that describes a situation with
conflicting moral and ethical issues.
Discuss the article with your partner/partners on your team.
You are assigned to one ethical dilemma and one side of the argument
(Supporting the actions or opposed to the actions). Please, speak with your
instructor to clarify what is meant by supporting or opposed so that you are
completely aware of your side of the issue before you begin to research and
work on this assignment.
Present your opening arguments, which are based on ethical
principles, philosophical viewpoints, value reasoning, and your research
findings. Your opening remarks should be no less than 250 words. Citations
and references are required for at least one resource other than the actual
article you have been assigned. You may use your textbook as a resource.
Debate must include a minimum of 2 current scholarly
resources. One for your initial post and one for the challenge. You will not
need any scholarly literature to support your final personal statements.
Include in-text citations and references in the discussion
thread for the argument. Citations and references are consistent with APA 7thedition
format.
