The Problem Statement
Women in domestic violence relationships are being abused and silenced. These domestic violence relationships silence the victims, encourage violence in children, and tear bonds in the community. Furthermore, in Kentucky in 2022, 45.3% of women and 35.5% of men have experienced domestic violence making Kentucky the state with the second-highest domestic violence statistics (“Domestic Violence Statistics by State”, 2022). Therefore, creating a domestic violence program that brings awareness to domestic violence, provides victims with safety, and takes preventative measures will be implemented.
EXAMPLE: The Root Problem
The underlying factors of domestic violence are substance abuse, childhood trauma, and mental illness. Individuals who suffer from substance abuse are known to act differently than they would if they were not under the influence. The influence of drugs alters their minds, making domestic violence a genuine possibility. Many abusers have either suffered abuse as a child or were a witness to domestic violence. This exposure teaches them to use violence against others. People who suffer from mental illness disorders (especially those that are untreated and/or undiagnosed) are known to have outbursts, be erratic, and many more. Any one of these factors or multiple combined are the underlying factors of domestic violence.
