A full draft of your introduction; this could be a single substantial paragraph or a longer
text of up to two pages. In this text, make sure that your research question and your thesis
statement are presented explicitly. Your instructor will coach you on the other elements
of an effective introduction.
v) A detailed outline. This could certainly take the classic form of a series of bullet points,
But it may be preferable at this stage to simply list the major sections of your essay (no
more than three or four) and write a paragraph about what you plan to include in each
one. Again, discussions with your instructor will be helpful.
vi) A bibliography, consisting of at least eight scholarly studies, such as scholarly books,
journal articles, theses, and dissertations. The use of primary sources, such as memoirs,
government reports, or contemporary newspaper articles, is welcomed but not required.
(These would be in addition to the eight required secondary sources.) You may annotate
your bibliography if you wish, especially with comments on how you plan to use each
source; but it is not a requirement. No textbooks or encyclopedia articles are permitted;
and, no websites as a source.
This progress report should not exceed 1250 words (or about five pages) not counting the
