Midterm Assignment
The midterm will consist of a 1,000 – 1,200 word (or 4 to 5 pages, double-spaced) essay drawing
on themes from the readings. You will select your topic from an assigned list, using the topic’s
designated readings. A bibliography is not necessary as you will be drawing only from the
course’s selected readings. If you have any questions regarding the assignment or need
assistance, I am happy to assist or provide feedback prior to your final submission.
Your goals for the assignment are below. Be sure to structure your essay so that it demonstrates
your capacity for both of them.
1. Gather, interpret, and assess information from a variety of sources and points of view
2. Evaluate how indigenous populations, slavery, or immigration have shaped the
development of the United States.
Each topic provides specific readings for you to incorporate into your response. Use these
readings only to construct your essay. These readings will be available in BlackBoard.
Although you do not need a bibliography, you do need to properly cite your sources within the
essay. You are free to use whatever citation format you are most comfortable with: MLA,
Chicago, APA. Additional resources on how to cite sources will be available in BlackBoard.
Plagiarism and the use of generative AI technologies as a substitute for your own work will
result in an automatic failing grade of the assignment in addition to a report of the violation of
academic integrity.
Please submit your response via BlackBoard. Your deadline is October 26, 2024 at 11:59 pm.
