Current Methods in Archaeological Science
Overview:
For the midterm, I am asking you to submit a methodology analysis for a case related to the topics of Bioarchaeology, Zooarchaeology, or Historical Archaeology. The goal is to understand the decisions and thought processes that drive certain archaeological questions. For this exercise, please choose one of the following:
Topics:
- Bioarchaeology:
- The Ötzi Iceman – Life and Death in the Copper Age
- Analyze how bioarchaeologists used skeletal, isotopic, and molecular analysis to reconstruct Ötzi’s life and the circumstances of his death.

Requirements:
- Document Format:
- Must be submitted as an editable Word document (.doc or .docx).
- PDFs or links to documents will not be accepted. The submission MUST be an attached document, not a link.
- Content:
- Introduction to the chosen archaeological problem.
- Summary of the methodologies used to study the problem (e.g., skeletal analysis, faunal analysis, historical integration, etc.).
- Key conclusions and their significance for understanding the past.
- Include at least three references formatted in APA citation format, which is similar to SAA (Society of American Archaeology) style. You can consult the SAA style guide using this link: SAA Citation Style.
- Length:
- Minimum two pages, maximum three pages, double-spaced (excluding references).
- References:
- Use APA format for citations (similar to SAA style).
- Include at least three academic references.
Submission:
- Submit the Word document via Blackboard by the specified deadline.
