Nobel Peace Prize winners who in some way or another represent religious
leadership/religion in peace and conflict. You will be assigned a name
together with being given you.
2014: Malala Yousafzai.
The task:
Imagine that you are producing a Podcast in a series where Nobel Peace
prizes from the past are discussed in hindsight. I have chosen names
that are well known, so that there will be ample material to find about
them. Given the situation at the time, and in light of the time elapsed
since then, was the winning candidate for the prize an appropriate
choice by the Norwegian Nobel Committee? Also, given the work you have
done on Virtue Ethics and Moral Character, I recommend that you use this
ethical approach and terminology as a starting point and interpretative
language in your discussion. I do NOT expect you to necessarily find
this the best way to speak of the issue at hand. You may well choose to
have different opinions on the matter.
Second: I want you to provide
a short reflection on whether or not (and why) you found virtue ethics
to provide a good, adequate or poor framework to understand and discuss
the Nobel Laureates’ work. You may use insight you gained from the group
work and refer specifically to this, and/or further develop your
thoughts on personal leadership, virtue and character in relation to the
person you studied and the course literature. The references are to be
correct according to the reference system you choose.
