Week 1 Discussion: Begin Your Yellowdig Discussion
Social Work and Research Using an Anti-Racist Lens
This week, we begin considering how social work must conduct and develop all research using an anti-racist lens. Social work is more than working directly with clients; it’s also about being aware of and addressing the systemic oppression that can be subtle in the structure of systems, including research practices. Share your thoughts about how to incorporate research in practice using an anti-racist lens. Here are some ideas to get you started in this discussion. Choose one of the following prompts to respond to. You do not need to respond to all of them.
- Share your thoughts about why it is important to engage in anti-oppressive research as a social worker. What are some research topics you are interested in?
- Share a link for a video or library article about anti-oppressive research practices. What are the two or three key points about what you have shared?
- Which of the readings this week provided information you can use at school, home, or work? What information might you use and how might you use it?
