This assignment, due on Nov. 18, is designed to teach students to use sociological imagination in understanding their daily experiences and social interaction. Each student is expected to write a 1000-word (Times New Roman Font, Size 12) research paper on how sociology deconstructs their understanding of what is considered a personal problem. You may use a social phenomenon that might appear to be a personal issue, but it is socially created. You will ask, how do history, biography and environment explain the personal problem in Canadian society? In addition, you are expected to find 5 peer-reviewed journal articles that relate to your paper. The 5 articles will help you understand the social construction of what is considered to be personal problem. Please use APA to format your paper and bibliography.

 

You are expected to submit your assignment via D2L assignment by 11:59 pm on Nov. 18. There is more information in your syllabus regarding academic dishonesty, but any form of plagiarism and academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. 

 

CONTENT: How well did the student introduce the main topic?  Did the student properly connect individual problems with sociological imagination?  Did the student provide a proper topic for this assignment – 3 Marks

DISCUSSION/ARGUMENT: Did the student properly connect individual problems with sociological imagination? Is there logical criticism that connects the individual to society, and more importantly, how well do they apply history and environment? Did the student critically explore the material and create a clear connection between the theory and the topic of interest? 3 Marks

 ORGANIZATION: Is there a clear introduction to the student’s analysis? How do they proceed to address each component of the assignment and whether there is flow in the argument? Do they conclude their work? Do they have a clear and fluent system of presenting the main ideas without straying from the dominant topic of discussion? – 3 Marks

STYLE: Check for the student’s proper grammar and punctuation. Is their writing intelligible and coherent? – 3 Marks

BIBLIOGRAPHY: Did the student select proper articles? Did the student select only peer-reviewed journal articles? Did they properly format their bibliography(hanging indents, correct APA format, alphabetically organized, etc.)? – 3 marks
