My Research question: What is the impact of social
media usage on the body image and eating habits of adolescent girls?
I added two sources that you could use if you like.
You will be writing the “introduction” section of your
research study paper. The purpose of the introduction of a research study is to
help the reader understand why the study is important. It provides the
background information about the topic, explains what the study is trying to
solve or find out, and explains why the study is needed. It also outlines the
main goal of the research and any specific predictions or questions the
researchers have. Overall, the introduction sets the stage for the study by
providing context and explaining its significance and purpose.
Be sure to address all 6 elements listed below. You also
must include at least 2 scholarly articles/sources which support your topic and
include those with in-text citations in your introduction. A title page and
reference page is also required.
The 6 prompts:
1. Background Information
Briefly introduce the topic of the study.
Provide context and relevant background information.
Mention key theories or previous research findings related
to the topic (be sure to include research and citations!)
2. Research Problem
Clearly state the specific problem or question the study is
addressing.
Explain why this problem or question is important to
investigate.
3. Purpose of the Study
Describe the main goal of the research.
Explain what the researchers hope to achieve.
4. Hypotheses or Research Questions
Outline any specific hypotheses (predictions) the study is
testing (hypothetical).
List the research question the study aims to answer.
5. Rationale
Explain why the study is needed.
Discuss any gaps in existing research that the study aims to
fill.
Mention the practical applications or theoretical
advancements the study might contribute to.
6. Significance of the Study
Highlight the importance and potential impact of the study.
Explain how the findings might benefit the field or society.
Please see an example introduction to a study below to help
guide you.
The increasing prevalence of social media usage among
adolescents has raised concerns about its impact on mental health. Previous
research has shown mixed results, with some studies suggesting a link between
social media use and increased anxiety and depression, while others have found
no significant effects (Primack et al., 2017; Twenge et al., 2018). This study
aims to address the specific problem of understanding how different types of
social media interactions (e.g., passive scrolling vs. active engagement)
affect the mental well-being of high school students.
The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship
between social media interaction types and mental health outcomes, such as
anxiety and depression, among adolescents. By focusing on the nature of social
media engagement rather than overall usage time, this research seeks to provide
more nuanced insights into how specific behaviors contribute to mental health.
This study is significant because it addresses a gap in the existing literature
and offers potential applications for developing targeted interventions to
promote healthier social media habits among young people (O’Reilly et al.,
2018; Richards et al., 2020).
