Racism and Classism in a complex topic because it favors a dominating group over others, historical events which shed light on the intersection of racism and classism has been the construction of oppressive racial systems that have harmed indigenous, blacks, and other people of color. Racism and classism intersections is the dismantling of the overlapping structures of racist policies and laws that create inequalities between racial groups. The” ISMS” is used in social terms words that describe how people feel and behave (Johnson, pg. 104).  This means that there is a collection of expression stereotypes and labels that accumulate with time. The Civil Rights movement from the 1950’s and 60’s, which transformed and liberated and gave African Americans rights as citizens of the United States. The voting Act of 1965 banned discrimination that was based on sex, race, color, religion, and end of segregation. During the 20thcentury men dominated and poor socialization became embedded patriarchy thought that men were better that women based on social ideas and relationships. Women were fighting for equal rights dated back in the mid 1800’s. The Women’s rights Movement in 1920 shed the light for white women, for they were treated as second citizens and could not vote and exercise simple liberties like same working jobs opportunities and being independent.

Until this day, there are still unequal paid salaries and opportunities for women in the U.S. spectrums of sexism exists and are still experienced. For instance, one of my friends was working for many years in the same position as a building inspection specialists and when she would ask to ascend and apply for a higher position, she asked what were the requirements of preparation which were provided to her and when she applied for the position, she was repeatedly denied. My friend perceived the position was not offered to her because of her gender because most of her previous male co-workers were acceded into better opportunities. My friend decided to be applied for the higher position elsewhere. I am so happy for her because she got hired immediately because she met with to do the same job requirements and is as competent as a male co-worker.  A sounded social movement on racism was the 2013 Black Lives Matter movement, which has resulted in the excessive force of police violence killings against African American like George Floyd and the recent “Stop Asian Hate” emerged from that Covid-19 pandemic. Race and class has done so much damage to humanity and this racial and class separation needs end, or it will continue to divide and destroy humanity continuously.

  1. What type of “ISMS” have you experienced the most and how can we intersect them peacefully?
  2. What would be the most recent example of racism and classism in your opinion?
