in 2500 words.

Purpose

The purpose of this assessment task is to apply strengths-based assessment and evidence informed intervention strategies for scenario clients who present with substance use issues.

What Will I Need to Know and Do?

To complete this task, students will need consider the interactions between two scenario clients and their context and apply the 5P Model for each of the two scenario clients using the template on the following page. Each of the two scenario clients are explored in two parts

Part A – (400 word maximum for each client using paragraphs)

    • Explore and explain the interactions between the addictive behaviours and the social context of the scenario client, integrating relevant academic literature.

Part B – Using the 5P Model (can use bullet points)

    • Apply specific assessment skills to create a 5P case conceptualisation for each client
    • Based upon the 5P model, develop a therapeutic plan for working effectively with each client. Identify and analyse relevant treatment approaches, demonstrating an ability to incorporate key learning from the unit content.

Submission:

    • Student submits reflective journal (using a MS Word document) to the online class space assessment dropbox (Turnitin).

Case formulation

Things you may need to consider include: any additional screening that you would need to do, addressing safety concerns, specific interventions based on the client’s readiness to change and social context, justification for choice of treatment, how you would demonstrate strengths-based principles.

Videos

Watch the TWO clips below to use as a case study, and attempt to draw some conclusions using the 5Ps model to form a general picture. Be warned, these are real people talking in graphic detail about some traumatising events in their lives. How would you approach working with your chosen ‘client’ and how would you manage your response to their stories?
