I have been working in an infectious diseases ward for 7 years in Hong Kong, also been through 4 years of COVID pandemic. I have goined my specialty in infectious diseases two years ago.
In fact, I have some ideas on the challenge of the development. Some of the colleagues in my ward have already gained a specialty, seems they are lack of incentives to engage in continuing education about their related specialty due to some restraints. For instance, the attrition of specialty nurses, the high workload in infectious diseases ward, turns out the specialty nurses has no spare time for self development for the advance medical care in their related specialty. Taking my specialty as an example, infectious diseases are always emerging, like Mpox. It is essential for an infectious diseases nurses to engage in continuing education to keep ourselves up to date and to provide tutoring for the newcomers. However, the current working environment seems not feasible for specialty nurse to engage in continuing education. Please see if you can attach some studies to support the discussion about this point and relate my working experience and specialty with this topic.
Thanks!
