Essay topics:  

• The Internet, conspiracy theories, and far-right extremism in the US (Please see the textbook chapter 11 & the documentary – American Insurrection + research)   

What am I expecting in the essay? Some guidelines: 

• Your essay should have a clear introduction with a clear thesis/argument, that is, the claim you are making in the essay.  

• The thesis statement is a concise sentence that reflects your thinking and offers the central insight or argument you explore in the essay.  

• The middle paragraphs ( ~three ) should discuss evidence/cases that support the thesis/claim. Each section/paragraph can focus on one piece of evidence/case. 

• One paragraph of critical analysis. Here, you provide a thoughtful analysis of how three different spheres: the Internet, conspiracy theory, and far-right extremism, are logically connected. You also explore which sociological, psychological, or criminological theories (or their unique combination) best explain the connection between these phenomena.      

• A conclusion should follow this. The conclusion should not only reiterate the thesis statement and summarize the main points but also discuss briefly what new areas/ideas can be explored in the future that you couldn’t do because of limited space and time.     

• Please provide full references/citations at the end.  

Worth: Total 100 points and 15 % of the total grade.   

Remember: To write this essay, please use a minimum of two to three peer-reviewed sources, textbook materials, and reputed newspaper sources. Suggested Journal: “Deviant Behavior.” Also, look at the library database.
