How has innovation and improvements in technology impacted the industry that you have selected for your research paper?
- narrow the time researched to the last 25 to 30 years to present time since is important to provide a short historical prospective and also new technologies introduced.
- Based on your research weave in concepts that we have studied and will study in our microeconomics class, concepts such as costs, economics of scale, pricing (revenues and profits), market structure, government regulation (areas in which government policy and laws are protecting the consumer and preserving competition among industry participants into this effort) and international trade.
- The research paper should be 3 to 3.5 pages in length (make sure to footnote and document your sources)
- Based on your research include how these innovative and technological changes impacted consumers, the businesses that comprise the industry and employees.
- For consumers, did their choice of products and solutions expand or contract?
- For businesses, did the changes cause the industry to expand the number of businesses or force the consolidation of the business (smaller number of businesses)?
- For employees, did the innovation impact the number of employees within the industry and the skills required to work within the industry?
Your paper should be an approximately 1,500 word position paper (the word count is merely a guideline; it can be a bit shorter or longer, as long as your paper has substance and you adequately support your position). The purpose of the paper is to facilitate your learning about a specialized economics topic as well as to help you become a better writer and critical thinker.
A large part of my evaluation of your paper will be based on how well you have substantiated your arguments. I will look to see whether your position and opinions are based on sound economic reasoning and if you have applied the principles communicated in our class and the text. ic, please contact me.
Use Your Own Original Words (Avoid Plagiarism)
Write both the paper, except for quotes. All quotes combined may not take up more than 20% of your paper, so at least 80% of your paper should be your original sentences. Document (in a reference page, or as footnotes) every quote, idea or statistic you borrow from another source.
