PROMPT: 500-word essay about how the three attributes of Kramer Way (caring, kindness, and
respect) have played a role in your life.
Kramer Way
The pillars of Kramer Way, namely, care, kindness and respect, are main values per se and all of
them shifted my life perspective. Regarding these values, I ask myself how they have influenced
me both as a person and as a caregiver. Some of these values started from childhood, easing the
creation of the baselines that shape my actions and interactions in work settings today.
From a young age, I was taught the profound significance of respect, a lesson that has shaped my
interactions and relationships throughout my life. Growing up, I was instilled with the belief that
respect serves as the cornerstone of all meaningful connections—be it within the family unit,
among friends, or in professional environments. My mother, a wise and nurturing figure, often
emphasized the importance of treating others with honor and dignity. She would frequently
remind me of the saying, “Umuntu, ngumuntu ngabantu,” which translates to “A person is a
person through other people.” This powerful phrase encapsulates the idea that our identities and
worth are intrinsically linked to our interactions with others. It was through her teachings that I
learned to value not just my own perspective, but also the thoughts and feelings of those around
me. This early programming in respect became an integral part of my character, influencing how
I navigate the world even to this day. In the school environment, respect emerges as one of the
most vital tools for learning and personal development. Classrooms are small, communities of
society, where diverse opinions and backgrounds converge. I believe it is essential to honor the
viewpoints of others, regardless of how minor or different they may seem.
This practice not only fosters an atmosphere of collaboration but also ignites creativity among
peers. When individuals feel respected and valued, growth and diversity is promoted. It allows
for the exchange of varied perspectives, which can challenge our own beliefs and expand our
understanding of the world. In such inclusive spaces, individuals can thrive, learn from one
another, and develop a sense of belonging. Ultimately, the lessons of respect that I learned in my
childhood continue to resonate with me, reminding me that we are all interconnected and that by
honoring one another, we pave the way for a more harmonious and enriching life
The virtue of caring has also become an integral part of who I am as a a person, particularly in
my role as a caregiver. This profound commitment to compassion and empathy has shaped not
only my professional life but also my personal interactions. Through my experiences with
individuals who are unable to care for themselves, I have come to appreciate the human
connections and the profound impact that even the smallest acts of kindness can have. The
fulfillment that arises from offering a gentle touch, a warm smile, or a listening ear to someone
in need.
Yet, this role carries with it a significant weight of responsibility that I approach with both
humility and dedication. Engaging with those who require care demands a deep understanding of
their different circumstances, a generous investment of time, and, above all, an unwavering
commitment to genuine care.
Each day serves as a reminder of the critical importance of my work, which goes beyond merely
meeting the physical needs of my clients. It is about fostering an environment where they feel
valued, respected, and understood. In this journey, I have embraced the belief that caring for
another person—or even an animal—means offering oneself as a reliable shoulder to lean on,
free from judgment. I strive to help others whenever I can, recognizing that every small gesture
can lead to significant changes in someone’s day or even their life.
This philosophy is encapsulated in the powerful quote, “People will always remember how you
made them feel.” It serves as a guiding principle in my caregiving practice, reminding me that
the emotional connections we forge are often more impactful than the tangible assistance we
provide. In a world that can sometimes feel cold and indifferent, I aspire to be a beacon of
warmth and compassion, ensuring that those I care for, know they are not alone.
The last attribute is kindness. My mother again would always say “learn to be polite to people.
Whoever you meet. You never know what they are going through. “Everyone has their own
battles they are fighting. In my daily life I strive to be polite even when I am angry. I chose to
greet strangers, patients, older people, and also be nice to dogs that I do not even know the
owner. I encountered a patient who was abandoned by family following a caesarian section and
delivery of two neonates. She did not have anyone to visit her, to sit with her or talk to her. I
would carry my tea during my tea break, and I would sit next to her. We would drink together
and laugh together. She had been diagnosed with postpartum depression which started to
improve when the whole team followed my example and offered to support her emotionally.
Reflecting upon these attributes collectively known as the Kramer way has made me realize how
wonderful and lifegiving they could be. I have realized that they make us human and everyone
else around us human. They promote joy, trust and dignity.I plan to uphold these attributes in my
daily life, in my workplace, and else in my home, and everywhere I go
