These instructions are for Essay 3, due November 29. You will have an oral exam Dec 2 to Dec 6 (which you’ll need to book before Nov 30) relating to the course material and to the essay that you write.
Preliminary instructions:
Develop a research question; run it by the professor from 13-20 November
20% essay + 10% exam.
You cannot pass the essay without doing the oral exam. It is possible for you to pass the oral exam even if you fail the essay part.
Essay 3 consists of TWO required parts
1) Essay: 800 words (minimum) – Research essay referring to multiple sources (for example, see Essay 2) and including a References list
2) Annotated Bibliography: 200 words, containing at least three sources summarized (Sources from your essay)
Total word count (roughly): 1000 words
Find relevant sources (refer to the Week 10 bibliographies)
Due date for November 29: No extensions for this essay are allowed unless you have accommodations. This is because the oral exams need to take place before the end of term, and oral exams are time consuming to organize, deliver, and grade. Term ends Dec 11 (Wednesday) and then marks are due Dec 16 (Monday) so there are only 2 working days to compile grades.
