Literature Review: Each student will complete a comprehensive literature review on a specific psychosocial concern that falls within the child life scope of practice. Students should have at least 15 current (since 2012) references from scholarly resources (no websites please). The final product should be no more than 10-12 pages and be typed according to APA format, in Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 12 pt. font and 1-inch margins. Name and page number should go on each page. This paper follows a traditional research paper in APA format and may not be written in a first-person narrative format. A suggested outline is included below. This assignment is worth 200 points.
- Introduction: In your introduction, you will set the stage by identifying what problem and population your review will explore. In this introduction, including epidemiological data that indicates the scope and scale of the problem (how many children are impacted, what can the problem result in that makes it important to study). Basically, this is where you describe the rationale for your review. End the introduction with a roadmap instructing the reader on what to expect in the paper.
- Defining the Problem: In this section, you will empirically define the problem and population you will explore in your review. If you are looking at anxiety in youth with cancer, you will detail the empirical definition of anxiety and describe what anxiety looks like in the specific population of youth with cancer.
- Developmental and Psychosocial Impact: In this section, you will discuss the impact of your problem on a child and family’s development and psychosocial functioning. What are the long-term ramifications of not addressing the problem? How could it impact the child in adulthood?
- Interventions to Address the Problem: In this section, you will discuss what has been done in the past to ameliorate the problem. You will detail the interventions and also describe gaps in the literature. Do the interventions work? Which has the best outcomes? What interventions have yet to be explored?
- Recommendations for Child Life Professionals: Based on your review, you will discuss your recommendations for which interventions child life specialists should use for this problem and population. Too, you will discuss future research studies that should support the exploration of this topic more fully.
- Conclusion: Tie it all together and remind the reader why this topic is important.
