Psychology of Ethics FINAL ( 3-Minute
Ted Talk)
Two weeks ago I posted information for
you to begin working on your Ted Talk. Please submit that assignment here. If
you have any questions or need help, please contact me and don’t wait until the
last minute. This assignment is worth a big portion of your grade.
If you are having a hard time deciding
on a topic, here are a few ideas:
- Is it ethical to allow children to play
sports like football and soccer where concussions are prevalent? - Should we change the way we treat prisoners of
war? - Is it ethical to use memory erasing drugs for
people who have had traumatic experiences such as soldiers returning from
combat, sexual assault victims or a parent who has lost a child? - Should hypnosis be a part of the therapy process?
- Discuss the Three Laws of Robotics in comparison
with human laws and rules. - Since obesity is such an issue in the USA, should
the government be able to control how we eat? - The Medication Generation: Under what
circumstances are prescription drugs ethically acceptable in the treatment
of children and adolescents? - Choose a specific Social Problem that needs to be
addressed or fixed (examples: gun violence, poverty, homelessness,
policing, education, etc.) - Should people be hired based on their personality
type and not their education? - Gender and Sexuality Issues: gender neutral
bathrooms, discrimination, etc. - Spanking as a form of discipline (should it be
used or not). - The use of profanity in today’s culture.
- Should community college education be free?
These
are just suggestions, your Ted Talk can be over any subject, just address
the ethical concerns/dilemmas present.
Review
the “Preparing for your Final” module and the Grading Rubric for
additional help.
Other
important information to remember:
- Please label
your video as Final: Ethics Video (just in case you have to use
YouTube to upload it, so there is no copyright infringement). - Take time to
review the grading rubric. - You must
record yourself presenting. - Wear
professional attire, minimize distractions, make sure the sound and
lighting are good. - Maintain
eye contact with the camera. - Practice
your speech before recording, you can have note cards but you should only
be using a reference, not reading the cards or your slides word for word.
Ted Talks are about sharing a story, so pretend you are having a
conversation with an audience about your idea. - Visual aids
– Here is a slide guide (there is no minimum or maximum to the
amount of slides you must have). - A
single word or line of text can have more impact than a paragraph. - Text-heavy
slides distract listeners from processing what a speaker is saying. - In general,
choose images over text. - Slides
should be easy to understand. - Keep graphs
visually clear. - No slide
should support more than one point. - Cut any
slide that does not have a clear purpose.
