Question : Preventing health problems through encouraging refugees and asylum seekers to stop smoking (you could focus on cigarettes or hookah/shisha).
You will be assessed on the following learning outcomes:
1. Use local and national data to assess the health needs of a specified population
2. Design a behaviour change intervention using one approach to address contemporary public health challenges
3. Critically appraise theories, methods, and approaches to understand and change health behaviour
4. Identify appropriate methods to evaluate and scale up a successful health promotion intervention
What is the assignment?
The assignment is an Intervention Portfolio Report.
What do I need to do for the assignment?
For this assignment, you are working as a behaviour change consultant for Greater Manchester Public Health Directorate. On your first meeting, they tell you there are four priority areas for their population and wondered if health psychology could help them understand and change one of these problems.
With reference to national and local health data, justify the importance of focusing on the problem you have chosen (up to 500 words).
Part 2: Choose one predictive theory of health behaviour you have learned about in the module, summarise its central tenets and how it would explain the extent to which your population engage in smoking/vaccinations/physical activity. Give two limitations/criticisms levelled against this theory’s ability to predict health behaviours with references (up to 300 words).
Part 3: Using the Behaviour Change Wheel to go beyond individual theories, map the COM-B model to your chosen problem and create a feasible intervention plan to target C, O and/or M for your chosen problem, detailing which intervention function(s), behaviour change technique(s) and mode(s) of delivery you will implement to engage people and deliver the intervention. Include some critical justification for using this method of intervention design (up to 1200 words
Part 4: Explain how this behaviour change wheel intervention will be tested locally in Greater Manchester, with reference to intervention testing methods taught on the module and practical considerations (up to 250 words)
Part 5: Using a framework taught on the module, explain how this behaviour change wheel intervention will be scaled up and implemented more widely in routine practice, with reference to practical considerations and previous research (up to 250 words).
