You are strongly encouraged to organize your paper with relevant subheadings to address each question, leading to logical conclusions that answer the primary and secondary research question(s). Ability to make rational evidence-based conclusions (30 points) – You will be evaluated on your ability to summarize the data you discussed and draw logical conclusions. When forming your position, explain the reasons behind your stance. For example, if your literature review reveals contradictory results on a particular topic, discuss why you support, oppose, or cannot decide based on your examined literature. Your critical thinking skills and logical writing will be assessed as you build your argument in response to the primary scientific question(s) you are addressing. You are strongly encouraged to follow the structure of the review papers provided as examples. 5. Overall conclusion and practical implications (15 points)- Considering the literature and your critique of the presented research, draw an overall conclusion and discuss the practical implications in clear, easy-to-understand language (big picture). 6. Relevance of references (15 points) – Rather than the number of articles cited (past the 12 required), grading will focus on relevance, accuracy, format and thoroughness of referencing. ** make sure to include your literature summary table as an appendix LITERATURE SUMMARY TABLE (50 points) (This should also be submitted as an appendix to your research paper) Your literature summary table clearly presents the main findings from each research article, helping students easily grasp the key points. It is recommended that students begin working on the table as soon as they start reading the articles. Completing this assignment just a week before the deadline is not advisable, as the table requires careful attention to detail. Working on the table will also encourage students to think critically about their presentations and papers. After you submit a basic summary table, you will have the opportunity to make further edits until the deadline, which is two days before your scheduled presentation. Please remember that no modifications will be allowed after the deadline. LITERATURE REVIEW RESEARCH PAPER (200 points) The literature review research paper will assess your ability to gather relevant information on an approved topic that aligns with the course description and to express your understanding in writing. All papers must be typed, single-spaced, using either Times New Roman 12-point font or Arial 11- point font. The research review paper must include the following components: 1. A clear introduction/background on the topic, at most 500 words. 2. A primary purpose statement and, if necessary, a secondary purpose statement. 3. A detailed methods section includes the search strategy, study selection, data extraction, and inclusion criteria. 4. A results section must include a PRISMA Flowchart describing the search strategies. 5. A thorough literature review detailed in the discussion section that highlights key concepts relevant to your chosen topic. 6. A concluding paragraph summarizing the research findings and their implications. 7. A bibliography. The recommended length for the paper is 8-10 pages of text (not including the cover page, tables, figures, and references). You are encouraged to focus on concise scientific writing, following the format of published review articles (further discussion will occur when you submit your draft writing samples). The paper should be structured clearly and logically, using headings and subheadings to organize content. You must use at least 12 original scientific journal articles (primary sources) directly related to your topic. Include your literature summary table as an appendix. All references must be appropriately cited in the text and the references section. References should be formatted according to the American Psychological Association (APA) style or relevant journals such as Diabetes and The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM).
