: Your task is to provide a critical analysis of the positionality of one African country within the international context. This task is designed to assess your ability to: 1.Analyse and critically evaluate interpretations of political issues, events, relationships and practices as they apply to the positionality of Africa in the world (Learning Outcome 3). 2.Systematically deploy knowledge of at least one African country and one region of Africa within the international context, as seen through different lenses (Learning Outcome 4). 3.Strategically select and critically utilise evidence and data from a variety of primary and secondary sources to construct, develop and sustain an argument, compare and contrast and apply theoretical analysis to African case studies within a group setting (Learning Outcome 5). You will be marked against these criteria as well as against the generic marking criteria. In order to understand the positionality of a given country one would consider the specific conditions of a given situation; the conditions under which a position arises; and the implications of that position in relation to the forces that maintain or challenge it. Thus, a starting place for this assignment is to think about the context and the historical specificity from which something has arisen (the historicity of the country of focus). This is in keeping with a postcolonial epistemology. In order to do this task most effectively, your research portfolio will draw upon the themes from weeks 3-23 and apply these, where appropriate, to your country. In this module outline, towards the back of the booklet, the theme of each class is approached through a series of questions. Use these questions to think about how the themes apply to your country. Specific readings are provided for each theme on Moodle, but you are also encouraged to explore further peer-reviewed sources and primary documents of interest. You should choose ONE country, from ONE of the regions, listed below. Should you have a desire to choose a country not on this list you must seek approval for this from the Module Leader before you begin working on your portfolio.
