Writing Instructions
The objective of this assignment is to find similar claims in at least two of the following readings from Signs of Life in the USA:
- “The Treadmill of Consumption” by James A. Roberts (pp. 297-302)
- “Millennials Tried to Kill the American Mall, But Gen Z Might Save It” by Jordyn Holman (pp. 312-316)
- “The COVID-19 Global Health Emergency Has Ended, But These Three Consumer Behaviors Aren’t Changing” by Forrester (pp. 323-325)
Writing Structure
This is a response assignment, not a lengthy essay, but it should be organized clearly. It will look like a brief essay when it’s finished. Organize your response to include the following three elements:
- a very brief introductory paragraph that includes the readings and authors you’ve chosen from above (2-3 sentences)
- one or two body paragraphs that do both of the following:
- a) show how these two readings reveal similar claims or points (you can discuss the subtle differences as well)
- b) directly quote passages from the readings you’ve chosen (include in-text citations for the quotes)
- a final paragraph that very briefly summarizes what you’ve found (2-3 sentences)
- a works cited page
